The client, an owner of an IoT-enabled pet feeder, wished to build a mobile application that empowered them to manage the pet feeder by counting it to their smart mobile phones.
An application that enabled the users to easily manage the feeding schedule and quantity through their smart devices while allowing them to view their pet feeding in real-time.

The team creating the backend software was working remotely from India and had no access to the physical product or its inbuilt software integrations. The team had tro rely on the inputs shared by the client for creating the program and were not able to test their codes in real-time.  
The client realized that some of the biggest apprehensions for baby boomers and seniors in changing their shopping methods were product quality. They preferred in-person grocery shopping because they could evaluate the quality of each item before buying them. Besides this, they were also skeptical of online payments and preferred card or cash payments to be made at a physical store.

Despite having zero access to the actual pet feeder, the team developing the software for the IoT device created robust backend integration to enable seamless operations. The team used Azure services to set up an RTMP server enabling real-time video streaming of the pet activity around the feeder. The solution comprised of user mobile application, an admin panel, and backend integration with a pet feeder.

Features of Customer Application

The customer application allows users to create a centralized control of their pet feeder. They can add multiple pets to the same feeder or add multiple feeders to the same app. The application allows you to easily create and alter feeding schedules for your pets and keep track of the total capsule consumed and remaining in the feeder. It also tracks the food and calorie consumption of the pet in a week.The user can define the shelf life of the opened capsule, i.e. the user can define for how long it is safe for the pet to consume food once the capsule is opened. The feeder automatically disposes of the food once the time threshold is crossed.

The admin panel provides an overview of registered users, total devices mapped to the system, and total pet profiles created by the users. It overviews the capsules consumed in a day, week, month, and year. The panel allows the admin to extract the comprehensive report to study the users’ pet consumption patterns.
